Asian stock markets rallied in trading Thursday. At the top of the gains - a 12 percent jump in South Korea. The higher numbers come on news that the U.S. Federal Reserve slashed interest rates. Every major index advanced in Asia.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index advanced 9.3 percent. "Any bear market will end some day, just like any bull market will end some day. I think we have seen the worst, and the central banks in the world have done all they can, and I think it's time for the economies to pick up the pieces."
Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average gained 10 percent as exporters like Toyota and Sony got a boost from the yen continuing to retreat from a 13-year high against the dollar last week. Benchmarks in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines also traded higher, closing the day by about 4 percent or more.
