 It was history in the making. Barack Hussein Obama took the oath of office as the 44th president of the
United States. He was a little behind schedule about five minutes, meaning Obama became president not when he
raised his right-hand, but as Yo Yo Ma played the cello, at noon on the dot as the Constitution states. Still,
that technicality didn't bother the more than a million people who crammed up and down Pennsylvania Avenue
and onto the National Mall.

 But Obama himself was in no mood to revel in the history of the day and instead used his inaugural address
to remind Americans that there is a lot of work ahead of them. (오바마 연설) "That we are in the midst of
crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. 
Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our
collective failure to make our choices and prepare the nation for a new age."

 The man some blame for the current state of affairs, now former president George W. Bush made a quiet exit
after the ceremonies and flew back to Texas. And Wall Street made it clear that it will take more than a
simple transfer of power to heal what ails this contry. The Dow dropped more than 330 points today to close
below the 8,000 mark. But ever the optimist Obama urged everyone to rise to the occasion.

(오바마 연설) "Our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions,
that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin again
the work of remaking America." Obama still has a night of celebrating ahead of them, with at least ten
Inaugural Balls on the schedule. Soon after he'll be back in the Oval Office trying to steer the country
through what he calls gathering clouds and raging stroms.

 February 17th was supposed to be the day when you would need one of these to keep watching over
the air television using an antenna, a converter box to get digital signals after stations dropped
analog. But the switch to digital is going to take more time. It looks like congress is setting a
new date June 12th.

 Blame consumer confusion over what is needed to keep watching TV. (소비자의 말)"I bought that
converter because they told us that's all we needed. It turns out it's not so simple. A government
program helping consumers cover the cost of converter boxes went broke. Here, it takes a coupon to
get a box, but there is now a waiting list.

"If you are using an antenna for your TV reception with an analog TV, you are the people that really
need to take actions to make sure they are prepared." People with sets connected to cable or
satellite should keep seeing a picture, no box necessary. One estimate said almost 7 million people
could see their sets go dark next month if something was not done to pull the plug on the digital
switch.

 It's being called  a breakthrough. A South Korean biotech company claims it has cloned these puppies using
stem cells from fat tissue of female beagle. The cloned dogs, named Magic and Stem were born Tuesday. And they
both share white markings on their foreheads and bodies.

 Scientists have already succeeded in cloning mice, pigs, and deer using stem cells. But It is believed this is the first time stem cells were used to clone dogs. Stem cells are prized for their ability to grow a variety of more specialized cells. The company says it plans to commercialize the technology. 

 That would allow clients to store their dog's stem cells and then use them to cure their pets' diseases or clon them after they die. The company says the approach could help scientists study how to treat human diseases such as diabetes and arthritis.

 His farewell address was a gesture of conciliation. Ending 8 years in power, George W.Bush spoke to his
critics as much as to his backers. (부시의 연설) "You may not agree with some of the tough decisions I have
made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions." Bush acknowledged setbacks
and controversy and things he'd do diffrently but said he always followed his conscience especially in deciding
how to battle those who struck on 911 and hope to do so again.

 (부시의 연설) "There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions. But there can be little debate about
the results. America has gone more than 7 years without another terrorist attack on our soil." Yet this was a
reflective Bush, not combative telling an East Room audience and Americans watching and listening he's grateful
for the privilege of leading them. (부시의 연설) "I thank you for the prayers that have lifted my spirits. And
I thank you for the countless acts of courage, generosity and grace that I have witnessed these past 8 years."

 He also sopke of the new day that dawns Tuesday when the first African-American President will take his place.
(부시의 연설) "Standing on the steps of the Capitol will be a man whose history reflects the enduring promise
of our land. This is a momemnt of hope and pride for our whole Nation." Bush says that handover, amidst the
turmoil of war and recession, speaks volumes. This brief address was meant as a final flourish, ringing down
the curtain on Bush's two tumultuous terms. The next time the president is heard and seen in public will be
the morning of the inauguration when he welcomes Barack Obama to his new home.
